To all the Mercer children and grandchildren/extended family,
My loving condolences on the passing of your dad. I have fond memories of visiting Uncle Gordon and your mom in Nfld and Moncton as a kid. He was always so kind to us even though we were always running around his house. As you grieve his loss, be assured of my warm thoughts and prayers for you and him. May he be blessed with the loving arms of our Lord as he meets again with Madeline in heaven.

Sending my thoughts and prayers to all the Mercer Family. I have very fond memories of Uncle Gordon. He was such a kind and positive man and always made you feel welcome and happy to see you. He seemed to love having children around and have fun with them. He really was a special man and I will always remember him. I am unable to come to the funeral but know that I am thinking of you all and praying for your family.

Today our family says goodbye to our grandpa and with that it’s impossible not to think about all the times that we spent with him. Unfortunately we lived a long way away from our grampy and therefore we did not get to see him as often as we would have liked, but at the same time it made every time we saw him more special. My grampy taught my sister and I some of our most important life lessons. He taught us that breakfast berries weren’t complete without a sprinkle of sugar, that every meal should end with a dessert (including breakfast) and that the TV remote always stays on the side table beside his chair ( even if that meant he needed to duck tape it there!).
Grampy, you will be dearly missed but we know that God will welcome you and that we will reunite one day. Give Grammy a hug and kiss for us. We love you to the moon and back.

Thinking of all of you today and saying prayers on the passing of your dad. He had a beautiful family, a long career which he loved and had a life well lived. In his later years with his health declining it was so difficult to know that he was no longer able to participate in life the way he once had but he persevered. I hope it gives you all some comfort to know he is at peace and with his beautiful wife who herself was an angel.

In this busy world there are many paths we might take. Fortunately for me one of those paths that Gordon and Madeline took led them to Newfoundland. I was just finishing University when I met the Mercer thru their daughter Nancy. It was easy to see that the values held by Gordon and Madeline would serve as a cornerstone which would lead to success for all their kids in whatever they chose to do in their lives.
Gordon was a strong willed man who believed in working hard and always giving an honest effort in all that he took on. He was proud of what he achieved in his career working many years for CNR ultimately becoming a manager responsible for track maintenance and keeping safe all who worked on the rails.
Today we all hope to be able to buy and own a home…Gordon built the homes that his family lived in…he had many skills and I was impressed.
A Strong Man—-An Honest Man—-A Hardworking Man—-A Smart Man—-A Generous Man—- But Most of all A Family Man
My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Rest in Peace.

In these last few days I have been thinking fondly of my grandfather and reminiscing on our time together. I would love to share a memory of my Grampy from when I was younger.
For my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary they hosted a big party, this party ended up as a family reunion. As a kid we grew up nearly on the other side of the country from my grandparents in Calgary Alberta. My aunts, uncles and cousins were also sprinkled all throughout Canada. So everyone gathering in one place was a very special event! It was a wonderful week camping out at Grammy and Grammys house! We ran up and down the halls (much to Grammys dismay), played soccer and badminton in the backyard with our cousins, caught frogs in the pond on their property, and watched jeopardy with Grampy every night. I am sure the dinner and dance to celebrate Grammy and Grammys wedding anniversary was lovely. Although it remains more of a foggy memory filled with dress clothes, long speeches and cake to my pre-teen self. A memory that remains crystal clear in that week is when Grampy called me and all my cousins to come into the living room one afternoon. His tone was serious and we moved quickly. He gathered us around and gravely told us that his money had gone rotten and turned this odd brown/red colour…He then fanned out nine 50 dollar bills! I don’t think any of us had ever been given such a large sum of money all at once before! We all broke out in laughter and hugs explaining that the money never went bad. He laughed and assured us that this money was no good to him and handed us each a bill!
That is what it feels like to be spoiled by a grandparent. It was so exhilarating and indulgent! I am so lucky to have spent the time I did with my Grampy. I know that I am blessed to come from a family tree filled with such strong traits like generosity, determination, faith and hard work that my grandfather often displayed. His passing is a great loss as no one will ever be quite like my Grampy. However, I am comforted to think his soul is resting peacefully with so many of his family members back home with the Lord.

To All of Gordon's Family - It's been a long and troubled journey for all of you as well as for Gordon. Now he, and all of you, can finally find peace from the struggle.
My memories of both Gordon and Madeline are happy ones as they always welcomed me into their home from when I was a very young girl, often for overnight or weekend visits, and on through adulthood. I visited often when they lived in Moncton as Brian and I lived next door for a while and then just a short distance away when we purchased our house. And When they moved back to Hampton, I enjoyed a number of firside chats in their cosy little den. And they were so good to my mother, Grace; when she was living alone in Hampton. A wonderful couple whom I have already been missing for many years. Brian and I send our most sincere condolences.

To Gordon's family I send my deepest sympathy. I have great memories of Eddie, Rob, Beth and myself making many visits to your home in Newfoundland, Moncton and Hampton. May you all find comfort in those memories too. Now your Dad is at rest. Sending hugs and love, as I won't be able to visit the funeral home or church, as I am in hospital. Take care of yourselves. Love you all,
