We never lived close to Auntie Joan, but she was a good aunt from afar! I recall the homemade cards with little poems and the packages arriving at Christmas or for a birthday. She would make Barbie outfits which would arrive sewed on to the cardboard that came with pantyhose in the day. I still have some of those outfits. It was comforting to think someone so far away would think of you. I visited as a child a few times and remember being rather shocked by her description of how wonderful it might feel to wiggle around in mud with your bare toes. Why, it just didn't seem like something an adult would say - and so daring because she didn’t seem worried about how dirty one's feet might become! As an adult, I got to know her better through our visits and was thrilled my daughters got to meet her. They also became very fond of her during those few visits. And, although my Dad, her oldest brother Victor, did not live to see his great grandchildren, it meant a lot to me to see my first grandchild meet Great-Great Auntie Joan! She was a quiet person who may have been be surprised to know what a void she will leave behind. Sincerest condolences and hugs to Maureen, Stephen, Sarah and Family and Lance.

Nancy, thank you so much for thinking of us. I remember those fun days as well and Mom's wonderful cooking. I think she enjoyed discovering pizza also. She still enjoyed having pizza for a change whether it was homemade or takeout. Her loss is such a void for us all.
