Obituary of Bev Edwards

It is with great sadness that the family of Beverley (Bev) Wilmot Edwards (late Faith) of Darlings Island, NB announce his peaceful passing on July 19, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Bev was born at Big Cove, just outside of Narrows, Queens County, NB on July 26th, 1927, the son of Florence (Haywood) and George Edwards.

Bev leaves behind his children: Judith Edwards (late Charles Smith), Linda Hersey (late Michael Smith), Timothy Edwards (Shirley) and Katherine Hughes (Tony); four grandchildren: Celine (Earl), Christopher (Charmaine), Brandy and Zachary (Bailee); six great-grandchildren: Lashawna (Jordan), Shawn, Shyla, Jacob, Owen, Jaron and Olive; three great-great-grandchildren: Amelia, Alexander and Meredith; brother Joe (Helen), sisters Alice (late Charles) and Gracie, and several nieces and nephews.

Rev. Gordon Johnson, nephew, will deliver the eulogy.

Besides his parents, Bev was predeceased by his loving wife, Faith in 2004; brothers Bob, Jim, Fred and Dave, and sister Phyllis.

An employee of Joseph A. Likely Ltd. for many years as a cement truck operator, in that capacity he contributed to countless major construction projects, including runways for the Saint John Airport. He was very proud of that work but ultimately returned to his first love as a woodsman, specializing in the harvesting of pulpwood.

An avid hunter and outdoorsman, Bev was a diehard Maple Leafs fan, loved horses and trucks, old-time fiddle music, and listening to Wilf Carter. In later years he was known for his delicious baked beans, soups, stews and casseroles that he routinely shared with family members (up until a few weeks before his passing) and prepared for special occasions. He was a bonafide people person who loved conversations about hockey and current events, but his pride and joy was his family.

Bev enjoyed robust health throughout his long life, and during the past few weeks received exceptional care from the staff of 5C North and 5C South at the Saint John Regional Hospital

Donations in memory of Bev may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
