Obituary of Jackie Oikawa

Jacqueline “Jackie” Lavina Oikawa, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully at the age of 75 on May 11, 2024 at Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John, NB.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Ken; daughters Sherri (Rejean) Levesque of Hampton, NB and Andrea (Simon) Wilson of Edmonton, AB; grandchildren: Celline Levesque, Madeline Levesque, Bennett Wilson and Emma Wilson; brother Robert (Helen) Head of Terra Nova, NL; sisters: Margaret (Gerald) Dawe of Kelligrews, NL and Janice (Michael) Ferrante of Sussex, NB, along with many nieces and nephews. Born on October 31, 1948 in Terra Nova, NL, to the late John and Ina (Sparkes) Head, she was also predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth Buckley, Daphne Tricco and her brothers David Head and Herbert Head.

Jackie’s greatest joy was spending cherished time with her family. With Ken, she enjoyed simple pleasures like going for drives, playing cards and having tea and desserts. To her daughters and sisters, she was a wonderful friend who brought joy and laughter through her playful spirit. She was incredibly proud of her grandchildren and supported them wholeheartedly, both in person and from afar.

Throughout her life, Jackie was a dedicated member of the United Church, where she found fulfillment in her charitable work and fellowship. She was known for her green thumb and found solace and beauty in cultivating her garden. Her yard was always adorned with vibrant blooms, a testament to her nurturing spirit.

Jackie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her quiet strength, and her beauty, both inside and out. Though she may be gone, her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at Hampton United Church with a reception to follow.
