Obituary of Melissa Heidi Lynn Israel

It is with great sadness that the family of Melissa Heidi Lynn Israel announce her passing which occurred on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Saint John, NB on September 12, 1988, she was the daughter of the Carl and Sherry Israel (McEwen).  

Anyone that knew Melissa knew she had an unmatched sense of humour and a beautiful soul. She was a lover of nature and enjoyed spending time by the water whether it be the ocean, Cassidy Lake or fishing in the river with her beloved son Gavin. She also loved music especially country and spending time with her friends. Melissa started her career in Human Services working in group homes and then later transitioned to an Educational Assistant in the school district. She had a passion for helping and caring for others.

In addition to her parents, Melissa is survived by her son Gavin Signoretti; sisters Stephanie McGrath (Jorden) of Riverview, NB and Carla Israel (Pat Lohnes) of Hampton, NB; maternal grandmother Cathy McEwen; paternal grandparents Joe and Gloria Israel; niece Madison and nephew Jack; as well as many extended family and friends. Melissa was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Howard McEwen.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital - Palliative Care Unit, Dr. Burnell and Dow Quality Health Care for all their excellent care given to Melissa. Your kindness and compassion shown towards the family will not be forgotten.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM. The funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Reid’s Funeral Home. Interment will take place in the spring at Riverbank Cemetery.
