Obituary of John Calvert
It is with profound sadness, the family of John Stuart Calvert of Hampton, NB, husband of Margaret (Robinson) Calvert announces his passing on November 11, 2023 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born October 1, 1949 in Cambs, England, the son of the late Donald and Iris (Allen) Calvert.
John moved from England in 1957 with his family and lived in the Toronto/Port Credit area until he was 15 years old when the family moved to Sussex Corner, NB. When the family moved to their next posting in Edmundston, NB, John stayed in the Sussex area where he eventually married Margaret Robinson. A year later, they moved to the Hampton area where John worked as a Burner Service Technician before he was employed by the Port of Saint John. John had dreamed of opening his own cabinetmaking shop which he did and operated it for over 25 years on the Guthrie Road in Bloomfield, NB.
John enjoyed being an active member of the community and church. He was an active father and attended all the special functions in which Amy and Joseph were involved and enjoyed watching them participate and learn which included dance recitals, karate, sports, Guides, Boy Scouts, coaching baseball etc. He was a wonderful Dad. The grandchildren lit up his life; he loved spending time with all of them and celebrated all their special occasions with them. We enjoyed family get togethers, especially if there was a roast beef dinner involved.
John will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Margaret of 53 years; daughter Amy McCombe (Jim) of Quispamsis, NB and son Joseph (Vicki Hamilton) of Bloomfield, NB. He was a proud and affectionate grandfather to Gillian, Jacob, Jade, Lucas and Lily. John is survived by sisters: Donna Kraan (Mike), Deborah Calvert, Suzanne Thom (Mark). He is also survived by his in-laws Helen and Dan Brown, Catherine and Harry Jones, Frank & Janet Robinson, Austin Robinson and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his sister Angela and her son Mark, stepmother Kathy, sisters-in-law Emma Brown and Pat Robinson, nephew Timothy and niece Rachel.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. A funeral service will take place from Christ Church, Bloomfield on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery, Bloomfield.
