Obituary of Arnie Blakney
It is with great sadness that the family of Arnold “Arnie” Earle Blakney announce his passing, which occurred on November 9, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born on April 2, 1942, in Saint John, NB he was the son of the late Austin and Gladys (Totten) Blakney-Steeves.
Arnie retired from the Saint John Airport after 27 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially going to the grandkids' hockey games. Spending time with Dwayne & Donnie in the garage or around the kitchen table playing cards were part of his favourite past times. Many summers were spent around the campfire at Wally's or playing poker with his camping friends. He could be found listening to his classic Country music or hanging at the store for a morning coffee with the crew. No matter where he was, or what he did, he touched the lives of many.
Arnie is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara (Lee) Blakney of Barnesville, NB; his children: Shaun Blakney of Barnesville, NB, Jason and his wife Krista Lynn Blakney of Hampton, NB and Krista and her husband Chris Doiron of Sussex, NB; grandchildren: Jayta, Jacob and Hudson; his sister Loraine Goldie of Quispamsis, NB; sisters-in-law: Joy Blakney of Barnesville, NB, Mary Lee of Saint John, NB and Carole Patterson of Saint John, NB as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Arnie was predeceased by his brother Elsworth Blakney and sister Doris McKinney.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB where visitation will be on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00pm. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, November 16, 2023, in the Reid’s Chapel (1063 Main Street Hampton NB) at 11:00am. Donations in memory of Arnie may be made to the Palliative Care – SJRH or the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and memorial donations may be made through ReidsFH.com
