Obituary of Alida Nutter

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Alida Marie Nutter announce her passing, which occurred on September 23, 2023, at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre Hampton, NB. Born in Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, NB on June 10, 1942 she was the daughter of the late Alban and Élise (Arsenault) Léger.

Anyone who knew Alida, or even just met her once, knew of her passion and joy for socializing and gathering with family and friends. There were no strangers to Alida, only people she hadn’t yet gotten to know. Alida and Al spent many years cooking breakfast at the original Peninsula’s Farmer’s Market in Kingston. The market provided a place for Alida to catch up on Peninsula news, share a laugh and quite often a hug or two. Alida also spent many evenings square dancing, playing cribbage and rummy, and hanging out at a favorite meeting spot - the Hampton Tim Hortons. Alida was also a dedicated member of Trinity Anglican Church and took great pleasure in always helping out with the teas, suppers and all of the social activities that provided her with opportunities to share fellowship, friendship and offer a helping hand.

Alida was a great ambassador for the Peninsula and welcomed all newcomers to the Kingston area with a smile, kindness and her cheerful attitude. She loved to drop in on friends, old and new, to say Hello and see how everyone was doing. No one who knew Alida was surprised to see her little blue car pull into their yard and her emerge with a huge smile and a wave.

Alida’s greatest love, besides her husband Al, was for her children and grandchildren. She was always front and center for soccer games, school productions, golf lessons and never missed an activity that involved Kristie or Matthew. She loved to spend time with them working in the garden, cooking together, skiing together or just going for walks. They were her pride and joy.

“A special thanks to the staff at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre for taking care of Alida with such love and kindness.”

Alida is survived by her daughter Donna Nutter of Evandale, NB; sons Tim (Kathy) Nutter of Kingston, NB and Billy Nutter of Burlington, ON; grandchildren: Kristie Nutter (Jason Collins) and Matthew Nutter; siblings: Loretta, Emerise, Ovide (Yvonnise), Amédée (Rosella), Jules (Mai) and Clarence (Patricia); as well as many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, Alida was predeceased by her loving husband Alan Nutter; siblings: Olivier, Fabien, Orpha and Germain; and son-in-law Gordon Bradley.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. In keeping with Alida's love of gathering family & friends, please join us for refreshments and a cup of tea or coffee during the visitation, which will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023 at the Kingston Parish Hall (3946 Route 845, Kingston NB) from 12:00pm to 1:45PM followed by the funeral at the Trinity Anglican Church at 2:00PM.
