Obituary of David Garfield Keirstead

David Garfield Keirstead went home to Glory on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. David and his twin sister Diane were born in the old Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John, NB on January 7, 1939. He was the son of the late Donald B. and G. Evelyn (Titus) Keirstead.

David taught school for thirty-five years with two of those years in Bloomfield and the remaining years in Saint John (Champlain Heights & Simonds Junior High). Over the years, he was involved in church work and at the time of his death was a member of the Bloomfield Baptist Church. He served as Sunday School teacher, youth leader, church organist & choir director, Sunday School treasurer and also was on various committees of the church. Many have enjoyed his hymn stories that he loved to tell.

David volunteered much of his time over the years at the Kings County Museum, Romero House, the YM/YWCA and the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre. He wrote several books on family and local history and provided newspaper articles on the area’s history to the community newspaper for over two decades. David also enjoyed gardening and traveling.

David is survived by his twin sister Diane Bursey (David) of Bridgewater, NS; sister Kathryn Richardson (Allen) of Saint John, NB; brother Rodney Keirstead (Mary) of Liverpool, NS; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb 15, 2023 from 4 to 7PM.
