George Gowlett

Obituary of George Stanley Gowlett

It is with great sadness that the family of George Stanley Gowlett announce his passing which occurred on Monday, November 7, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Sussex on September 22, 1949, he was the son of the late Ernest and Hazel (Lewis) Gowlett.

George was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting and trapping. Hunting by himself or with “the boys” was his passion and he enjoyed every moment of it. He also enjoyed sharing his knowledge and abilities with others, teaching others outdoor skills right up until he went into the hospital. George also loved to garden and spent many hours tending to his crops. Above all, George loved his family and friends and cherished the time he spent with them. He loved to argue with those around him and those arguments will be missed.

George is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joan Gowlett (Hutchings); children: Laura-Lee Gowlett of Bloomfield, NB and John Gowlett and his wife Shelley of Bloomfield, NB; grandchildren: Cheyenne, Monica, Julian and Cassi; great granddaughter Ava; brother Bryant Gowlett (Wanda) of Sussex, NB; sisters: Mary Boyd of Sussex, NB, Geraldine Gowlett of Sussex, NB and Joan Tays of Sussex, NB; fur-babies: Hellboy, Gordie and Wild Thing; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his brothers: Stanley and Freeman Gowlett; and sisters: Bulah Gowlett and Florence Nickerson.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. Family and friends are welcome to join the interment, which will take place on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 2:00PM at Big Rock Cemetery, Bloomfield, NB, with a potluck to follow at the house. George’s only request was that you come dressed casual or in camo.
