Jean, We were sad to hear of Laurie's passing. Over the years he spent a good amount of time at our home renovating and repairing, taking care of the plants when we were away (he could somehow make them bloom like crazy) and just dropping in for a visit. We were friends / neighbors for a short 4 years but it was a firm friendship over the last 40 plus years. I will never forget his always being free to load me and the boys into his vehicle and take me to your home for the day! Great warm memories. So sorry to hear Jean that the world has lost one whose purpose seemed to be to make people smile and be thankful for all they have. God always has a plan that we aren't always in on but I think his plan for Laurie was to teach us patience, humility and a love for nature. His special gift was always putting complete strangers at ease and giving the benefit of the doubt to all.

A number of years ago, Bob (Jean's brother) and I were visiting Jean and Laurie from Alberta. We sat down to one of Jean's delicious suppers...complete with a beautiful salad. I was experiencing a bit of difficulty using the salad fork and spoon and commented that I'd always been pretty clutsy getting salad onto my plate. Immediately after the meal, Laurie disappeared out to his shop and returned with a pair of salad utensils which I have used ever since. He made them in less than a half hour and presented them to me, all the while smiling his beautiful, half shy smile. I have many wonderful memories of Laurie and I'll always treasure them. Thank you, Laurie, for being you. And Jean and all of your family...you are in our thoughts and hearts. We're here.
