It's funny how there are people in your life that you remember and hold dear to your heart however briefly you may have known them. Mrs. Judge was my first grade teacher at Elizabeth Sutherland School in Spryfield in 1968.
I haven't seen her since nor did I know where her life led her after our grade one encounter. However I remember her fondly as being a kind, caring and gentle soul and a great teacher. I seem to recall that she drove a big black car (maybe a Cadillac ?) that had rear fender fins. I also remember her teapot. We had shelves under the chalkboard at the school and I remember her boiling her teapot. We said it looked like Aladdin's lamp. She was a great artist and drawer. I remember asking her to draw me a picture of Snoopy on his doghouse. She did graciously. I still have it.
I have attached our class photo from grade one. I'm the guy in the middle row on the left with the glasses.
I've read the other messages here and realize the impact Mrs. Judge had on other peoples lives throughout her life. May we all strive to better peoples lives and have a positive impact on those around us as Mrs. Judge did. Well done.

I have only known Phyllis for a short time. I met her at open mic night at Hampton. I can say I understand the comments from her students.
She alway had a story (joke) and candy to share. I felt an almost instant bond between us and it was confirmed when we started talking hockey she instantly bragged on the Canadiens, what a girl.
My wife and I offer a heart felt condolence to her family and all those close to her.
She was a friend.

I was saddened to learn of Phyllis’s passing. I taught with Phyllis in Spryfield at Riverview School. Phyllis was a wonderful and caring teacher and person. She was always willing to share her expertise and I looked on her as a mentor. She loved to paint and I was thrilled to receive a painting from her as a wedding gift. I have thought of her many times over the years and wondered where her life had led her. My sincerest condolences to her family. I know she and her beautiful smile will be missed!

My neighbour across the street from my childhood home, I spent a lot of time with "the Judges" as their son David was a very close friend. Phylis was almost like a second mother to me, even to the point of scolding me (if I deserved it). A wonderful person.
Rest in peace

In 1962 I had the best teacher ever- Mrs.Judge. She was my 5th grade teacher at Central School. Once in a lifetime people get to have an amazing teacher like her. I was one of the lucky ones. She was like my mother, always there to guide me through my difficult times. I have often thought of her and now she is gone but she will remain alive in my heart. My condolences to her family. David, Kathy and Family...
Phyllis was a sweet, beautiful lady....
Here is a verse we received when my Mom passed..
"They never meant to hurt you by leaving...
It was just their time to return to God's embrace...
their chance to be healed of all their aches and sorrows.
And yet, they haven't stopped loving you for an instant."
So sorry for your loss, Sincerely, Dan and Mary

To the Judge family, Phyllis, for this past month was my mother’s (Dorothy Dunlop) roommate at the Snow Center. I only got to visit my mom a few times before Christmas, before covid restrictions limited visiting to one family member. However, I would read crossword puzzle clues to my mother in person and later by video, and Phylis if not sleeping, was quietly attentive and would also chime right in with the answers! She still enjoyed having her mind engaged! I think she enjoyed the company of our visits with our mother, and the visits from my mothers dog, tho I wondered sometimes if we were too rowdy! I teased her that she had enjoyed crossword puzzles and things like that, like my mother did. Now after reading her obit and other personal comments, I see she was probably a keen life long learner and teacher, a diligent worker, and fun loving person. I was truly blessed to have made her acquaintance, tho short in time. Kathy, I went to Hampton High with you Paul and Susan. My condolences to you and all of Phylis’ family.

Phyliss taught several of my older siblings in the 1-room school in Upper Burlington, Hants Co in 1948/49. She was 16!
As related to me by her, her parents could not afford the train tickets for her to get her gr 12 at the Academy in Windsor. A chance meeting with the Inspector of Schools brought the employment "opportunity" teaching over 20 students in gr primary-9, some almost her age.
After school on Fridays she would walk home about 4 miles, then with sister Stella walk another three to a dance in Ashdale, dance 2-3 hours, then walk back home in the dark, all on gravel roads.
They thought nothing of it, one of life's adventures in rural NS.
I believe her salary for the year was $450.
Truly remarkable.

My sincere condolences to all of the friends and family of Phyllis Judge. Although I never met her family I am sure you can appreciate what I am saying when I say, that Phyllis was able to light up a room with her personality and charm. I was lucky enough to have met Phyllis for the first time while at the Hampton jams and it was an instant friendship for both myself and my loving wife.. Phyllis was always so happy and witty. It was nothing but sheer pleasure to sit and join her and her friends at the jam. The group of girls that Phyllis traveled with became regulars at the Hampton & Sussex Jams and earned their title as the "Hampton Girls". Phyllis loved to joke, More than once during the evenings she would have the table laughing so hard that tears would run down our face. You just never knew what she was going to say next.
Phyllis will be missed not only by her immediate family but also by her "Jam Family" as well. To Phyllis' family .... I say that your mother, aunt, sister or other family member connections. Phyliss was gifted in a way that bought comfort to all that surrounded her. Yes Phyllis enjoyed her friends, her jams, her jokes but, Phyllis loved her family. Phyllis Judge was special and will forever remain "Special" not only to the family but also to those who were lucky enough to know her. Phyllis has left behind for our comfort, all the good memories for us to enjoy. please God Bless this "Special Lady" and may she Rest In Pease

In 1949 Phyllis Rhodes of Scotch Village came to Upper Burlington Community School as our teacher. She was very nice and also very kind. Loved going to school each day and have her guide us through classes in this one room school. May she rest in peace, her work on earth was well done. She has graded with a 100% well done mark.

It has been 5 decades since a young B.Ed student at Mt St. Vincent University was blessed to be assigned to Grade One master/mentor teacher, Phyllis Judge, for a Practicum and experiential classroom placement.
Phyllis provided me with her expertise, and intuitive insight into the world of six-year old children.
Her knowledge, understanding, kindness and ability to provide an excellent learning environment for these little ones and her B.Ed student have always been cherished and appreciated.
Caring condolences and heartfelt sympathy to you and your family, as you bid farewell to Phyllis.
