Obituary of Damon M. Downey
Trusting in a loving Heavenly Father, the family of Damon McKay Downey announces his passing at home while surrounded by family on October 19, 2019. Born in Curryville, NB on April 11, 1933, he was the son of Guy Vernon Downey and Cora Dolores (McKay) Downey and husband of Alice Louise (Thompson) Downey.
Damon was employed by CN Rail for the first half of his career while living in Moncton and Fredericton and finished as a financial advisor with Investors Group in Saint John. In his younger years, his leisure time was spent singing bass with the "Barbershoppers", growing vegetables, playing badminton and baseball, coaching and umpiring. Damon served in many ways; including leadership, playing piano/organ in his church and in his community. In his later years he enjoyed organizing church suppers. His more recent passions were watching the Toronto Blue Jays and making a variety of jellies and jams. His greatest joy came from family gatherings, especially family dinners.
In addition to his wife, Alice Louise (Thompson), Damon is survived by his children Kelly Galbraith, Darren (Tina), Lisa Pattison (George), Heidi Kelly (Tim) and Damon {Chip} (Michelle); step-children Barry Short (Carol), Lynn Roy (Mike); sister Dolores (Roland); grandchildren Meredith, Zachary and Mackenzie Galbraith, Andrew Greenwood, Caroline, Brooke and Kaylia Downey, Logan, Dax, Chaya Philips, Kade and Jacob Pattison, Maddison Correa, Reece & Jack Kelly, Dara, Cora, Brya, Ayva, Ella and Sofie-Lynn; step grandchildren Kendall, Keith, Emilie, Stephanie, Michael, and honourary grandchildren Lindsay and Joe; also cherished are great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
Damon was predeceased by his brothers Vernon (Marilyn), Walter (Linda), nephew Darrell & niece Dawn.
Visitation will be held on October 22, 2019 from 5-8 p.m. and the funeral on Wednesday October 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Both the visitation and funeral will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 177 Villa Drive, Hampton.
A private interment will take place at Hampton Rural Cemetery. Donations in Damon’s memory may be made to Hampton-Piggs Peak Partnership, Hampton Food Basket, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
