Obituary of Shirley Crowell
It is with much sadness that we are announcing the passing of Shirley, wife of Bill Crowell and mother of Gail Carroll. She passed away at the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre on July 18th at 4:30 a.m. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and will be missed by all that personally knew her. Shirley was a loving and caring person who loved to take care of others and after a short battle with cancer peacefully moved on.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Bill Crowell, only daughter Gail Carroll (Jim), 3 Grandchildren, Tyler Carroll of Edmonton, AB; Amanda Clare (Steven) of Edmonton, AB; Dayna Carroll (Nadim Zaidi) of Montreal, PQ; only Great Grandchild Maya Zaidi of Montreal; several Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Great Nephews; Sister-in-laws, and Brother-in-laws. She loved family and extended family very much and her face just lit up at the mention of her Great-Grandchild, Maya, who got to spend some extra time with her during her last month.
She is predeceased by her mother, Ada Kennedy, father, Earl Kennedy; brother, Richard Kennedy (Shirley); and Maxwell Kennedy (Delores) of St. John’s, NL.
While living in Labrador City, Shirley worked in the retail business in (Woolworths) in her earlier years; was on the Anglican Church Womens Guild; had a catering business; and later when she and Bill moved to St. John’s, NL had a couple of business including a bakery, a corner store, and catering business.
In her last years in Hampton she developed a wonderful relationship with her caregivers Vivian Bhola and Jean Bates. They were her second and third daughters, even though she said her only child, Gail, "was as good as a bunch". They went above and beyond to make her last years comfortable and were always there for her. We are so very thankful for their loving support as well as the support of the staff at the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre.
Shirley will be cremated and her remains will be taken to St. John’s, NL later in August to her final resting place where her mother, father, and two brothers are buried/cremated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home, Hampton (506-832-5541). Donations in memory of Shirley can be made to the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre, or a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and memorial donations may be made through www.reidsfh.com
