With appreciation of a life well lived, the family of F. Irene (Carvell) McWhirter of Long Reach, NB announces her peaceful passing at home on October 24, 2018. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Perley (Armstrong) Carvell. Irene was a teacher for over 30 years at Princess Elizabeth School, where she met the love of her life, Donald McWhirter. Irene and Don were married for 53 years, living in Saint John until moving to her family home in Long Reach. They enjoyed their retirement years hosting many parties for friends and family, spending winters in Florida and summers in their gardens. Irene was a member of Tabernacle Baptist and Kingston United Baptist churches. As a woman of faith, Irene was a peacemaker who led by example, always putting others first. Irene and Don were active volunteers in their community and Hampton, giving their time to Peninsula Heritage, the Dr. VA Snow Centre, the Hampton Tourist Information Center, Peninsula Pearls Seniors Group and the NB Retired Teachers Association. Her loving, fun and generous personality made everyone around her feel important and she was special to all who knew her. Irene is survived by her nephew Bill (Anne) Carvell, great nephew Jesse Carvell (Leesa Blakely-Genier), great niece Samara Carvell (Curtis Stever) as well as other extended family. Irene was predeceased by her husband Donald and brother William (Bill) Carvell. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. Visitation will be held at the Kingston Baptist Church on Tuesday October 30th, 2018 12:30 – 1:30 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. Following the funeral service there will be a reception in the church hall. Interment will take place in the Long Reach United Cemetery. Donations in memory of Irene may be made to Camp Tulakadik , Kingston Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
