Obituary of Jerry Mitchell

It is with sadness that the family of Jerry Charles Alton Mitchell, age 75, of Hampton, NB, announces his death which occurred unexpectedly on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at his residence. He was born on March 23, 1942, in Bridgetown, NS, a son of the late Angus and Doris (Mansfield) Mitchell. Jerry was retired from the Canadian Armed Forces where he worked as a Laboratory Technologist. He was a well known collector of anything that caught his attention. Jerry was a well known trumpet player in his early Legion days and was a very talented musician, teaching himself to play wind, string and piano instruments. An entire generation of Nova Scotia kids will remember him as a coach of hockey, football and baseball for many years. Jerry was a proud member of the Saint John Vocational School alumni and a long standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion in various branches across the country. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sylvia Evelyn Dorothy (Brooks) Mitchell; son Jerry Charles Mitchell and his wife Shirley of Saint John, NB; daughters: Margaret-Anne Mitchell of Saint John, NB, Christine Marie Fish and her husband Dan of Ottawa, ON, and Paula Marie Mitchell of Saint John, NB; nine grandchildren; as well as many extended family and friends. Besides his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his brother Paul Mitchell. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB were visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 6 to 8PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11:00AM from Reid’s Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place in St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery, Hampton. Donations in memory of Jerry may be made to the Hampton Royal Canadian Legion Branch #28 or to the memorial of the donor’s choice.
