Obituary of Loretta Hanlon-Mullins

After a life well lived Loretta Eileen Hanlon-Mullins, age 88, of Bloomfield, NB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Poodiac, NB, on March 13, 1928, she was the wife of the late Wilfred Hanlon and the late Lloyd Mullins and a daughter of the late Ernest and Laura (Mallory) Mahoney. She was an amazing math teacher for 35 years…loved her flower beds and vegetable gardens…quilting with the church group, sisters and friends, playing the organ for services at the former United Church in Bloomfield, and always the first up from the table to refill your cup of tea. She pulled through a devastating loss of two children in 1969. Being the chief cook for the 700 or so biscuits she so carefully "kneaded" each year for the annual Church strawberry festival, was a talent that few would be able to duplicate. Loretta was a light hearted, strong and still an energetic woman up until two weeks prior to her passing & was still making jokes while laying in the hospital bed just a few days ago. Even on the eve of her passing, she still continued to put others before herself, even making a remark that she was inconveniencing many people who felt they had to visit her in the hospital. That my friends, was her nature. This world would be an entire different place to live if we all could follow her example. May her soul now be at peace in a new life with family members who have passed on before her. Loretta is survived by her daughters Valerie (Gary) Floyd of Titusville, NB, Wanda Leaman of Quispamsis, NB; son Greg Hanlon (Mary Jarratt) of Little Ridge, NB; grandchildren: Jeff (Bonnie) Floyd, Michelle Floyd, Robbie Floyd, Brooke Hanlon (Phil Iniguez), Alex Hanlon, Josh Hanlon, Emily Villemure-Hanlon, Jasmine Villemure-Hanlon, Barry Wade, Scott Wade (Alice); great grandchildren: David, Jesse, Emma, Jenna, Blake, Alicia, Mikaya, Robert Jr., Rome; great-great grandson Camden; chosen daughter Ginette Villemure and granddaughter France Cassistat (Carlos Portillo); sisters: Jean Graves, Rita Bortolussi, Irene (John) Goddard, Angela Henderson, Dianne Ganong (Tom Trecartin); brothers Reggie (Dawna) Mahoney, Leo (Donna) Mahoney; brother-in-law Bob Erb; sister-in-law Marion Mahoney; step-children Donna, Wayne, Brenda, Jeff and Stephen as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter Kathy Hanlon; son Brian Hanlon; son-in-law Gil Leaman; step-son Mitchell; sisters: Kathleen Devine, Marie Mahoney, Lois Erb; brothers John, Fred and Ronnie. She is resting at Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, with visitation on Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Kelly Hudson-Lewis will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 1:00 PM from the Hampton United Church, followed by interment at the Big Rock Cemetery, Bloomfield.
