Obituary of Joan Gowlett

It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Marie Gowlett announce her passing which occurred on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John, NB. Born on August 1, 1954, she was the daughter of the late John and June (Tays) Hutchings.

Joan’s family was everything to her. When she walked into the room everyone loved her. She loved making food for the family get-togethers, which her family will miss very much.

Joan struggled with mental health issues for years, but that didn’t slow her down. She loved to travel, and in the summer of 2023, she went on her dream trip by train across Canada with her 3 sisters. She also celebrated her 70th birthday in Newfoundland with close family.

Joan loved to shop, mostly for others, except for her “styling clothes”. She had a heart of gold and would help anyone, whether you were family or not.

Joan LOVED to be on the phone from the time she woke, till she went to bed. We will miss her “hourly” calls. She loved nature, drawing, and playing Crib - to win.

The family would like to send a huge thank you to the Bloomfield Baptist Church for giving Mom one last family Christmas gathering on Sunday.

Joan is survived by her children: Laura-Lee Gowlett of Bloomfield, NB and John Gowlett (Shelley) of Bloomfield, NB; grandchildren: Monica, Julian, Cheyenne and Cassi; great granddaughters Ava and Mallory-Joan; sisters: Susan Doiron of Lincoln, NB, Dale Dennis of Sussex, NB and Jackie Hutchings (Scott) of Hampton, NB; brother-in-law Michael Bovaird of Bloomfield, NB, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her loving husband George Gowlett; sister Marilyn Bovaird; brothers-in-law David Doiron, and Richard Dennis and son-in-law Terry Roberts.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. There will be a Graveside Service at Big Rock Cemetery in Bloomfield on Saturday, September 7th at 2:00pm. There will be a reception to follow at the Bloomfield Baptist Church.
