Obituary of Charlene Patterson
On July 7th, 2024, our beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, Charlene Joyce Patterson, passed away in Saint John, NB, after a long but bravely fought battle. Charlene was born on February 12th, 1954, to Joyce and Ronald Kervin.
She is survived and deeply missed by her husband, Roy Patterson, and their three children: Angela Neumann (Thor) of Waterloo, Shauna Sommerville (Evan) of Quispamsis, and Melissa Whelan (Tim) of Hampton. She was a loving grandmother (Grams) to Aurelia, August, and Reiker Neumann; Ella and Aaron Sommerville; and Julia and Nora Whelan. Charlene is also survived by her mother, Joyce Kervin, and siblings Roxanna Prince, Kathleen Corey (Michael), Michael Kervin (Carolyn), and Kimberley Stanton (Neil).
During her younger years, Charlene spent time with her family and many siblings, camping, sledding, playing, and listening to music while helping with domestic duties, as it often happened with large families. It was on a camping trip to Grand Lake in her teenage years where Charlene met Roy and from that moment forward, they were inseparable.
Charlene and Roy settled in Hampton, where Roy had significant family roots and history. The Patterson home was a hub for many family gatherings where she served her famous pies and biscuits among many other East Coast delicacies. Charlene loved a party, her laugh was contagious, and she always had a positive outlook on life. She could find a solution to almost any problem at work or at home. She had an adventurous spirit and was always active throughout her life, gardening, hiking, walking and often planning many ski and southern destination trips. In her later years, Charlene enjoyed solitude and a good laugh in St. Andrew’s by the Sea.
She graduated from the Saint John School of Nursing in 1974 and dedicated 44 years to her nursing career. Charlene worked in various roles at St. Joseph’s Hospital and fondly remembered her time in the ICU and dialysis unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She deeply cared for her patients and was loved by her colleagues.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Hemmings, Dr. Mackin, Dr. Love, Dr. Reiman, Dr. Daigle-Maloney, Dr. N Graves, and Bernetta Ramsay. Bobby’s Hospice will always be remembered for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time. The family also appreciates the overwhelming support from friends and family who will forever cherish memories of Charlene.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB where visitation will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00pm. The funeral service will be at Reid's Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 11:00am.
