Obituary of Gerald Coleman

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gerald Anthony Coleman announce his passing which occurred on Friday, June 28, 2024, at the Rocmaura Nursing Home, Saint John, N.B. Born in Lower Norton, NB on July 17, 1939, he was the son of the late David and Margaret (Doherty) Coleman.

In the early 60’s, Gerald went to work for Irving on the Saint John River on the log sorter. When he left Irving, he went to work for the Canadian Coast Guard. After that, he went into farming and lumbering. In 1986 he bought the meat store in Hampton and continued with it until 2020 when the pandemic started. He continued to run the gravel and lumber business and doing a bit of gardening until 2022, when he went to St. Joseph Hospital.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Marlene (Marr) Coleman; sons: Tony Coleman of Lower Norton, NB, Roy Coleman of Norton, NB, Tim Coleman of Kiersteadville, NB and Tom Coleman (Sharma) of Lower Norton, NB; daughters: Diane Johnston (Jeff) of Lower Norton, NB, Jean Korth (Paul Brine) of Halifax, NS, Brenda Coleman (Everett Lavoie) of Burton NB, and Shelley Scott (Kevin) of Burton, NB; eighteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister Helen MacPhee of Lower Norton, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his brothers: Leonard, Leo, David, Vernon, Harold, and Ronald; and sister Mary Laird.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Cam Unit at St. Josephs Hospital and Rocmaura Nursing Home for their amazing care of Gerald.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. As per Gerald’s wishes, there will not be any viewing or funeral service. There will be graveside prayers at St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery, July 20, 2024 at 1:00pm. Donations in memory of Gerald may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
