Obituary of Bruce Long

It is with great sadness that the family of Bruce Hazen Long announce his passing which occurred on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at his home in Bloomfield, NB. Born in Passekeag, NB, on January 15, 1949, he was the son of the late Silas and Freda (Smith) Long.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Brenda (Dempster) Long; children: Becky van der Sluys (Arjen) of Kingston, NB, Lori Long (Jamie Weston) of Barnesville, NB and Jerry Long (Erin Camick) of Bloomfield, NB; grandchildren: Dylan, Eve & Jena van der Sluys, Ben & Maggie Leland, Hartley Long and Brienna Camick; brothers: Doug Long (Julie), Kenny Long (Debbie) and Jeff Long (Tammy) all of Bloomfield, NB; sisters: Evelyn Cassidy of Bloomfield, NB and Marlene Marr (Tony) of Midland, NB; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Bruce was predeceased by father-in-law Hanford Dempster; mother-in-law Mary Dempster; brothers-in-law David Cassidy and Ronald Dempster; and nephew Scott Dempster.

Bruce's greatest joy was his family. He was an amazing father. He helped with homework and all the kid's school projects. He made it a priority for the kids to do well in school and get a great education. In the winter, he took the kids to Slias' every day after school to go skating. There were many trips to Cassidy Lake in the summer to go swimming. He always had great advice for everyone and he never judged a soul.

Some of Bruce's favourite things were his BSA motorcycle, and his Oldsmobile cars. He enjoyed working on his car and everyone's in the neighbourhood. He was an avid hunter. He also loved to fish and take care of his big vegetable gardens. Bruce loved to go for Sunday drives and visit everyone he knew. He will always be remembered for his strength and positive attitude. He overcame many obstacles and never complained. He always had a smile on his face.

A special thanks to KV Extra-Mural. They enabled Bruce to live at home the last 10 years. They were always available for anything he needed.

Another special thanks to all the care givers who came to his home the last 3 years.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB and will be held privately.
