Obituary of Claire Sanford

Claire Sanford, age 93, died July 22, 2023. She was the daughter of Ernest and Viola (Dixon) Price. Claire grew up in Hampton and lived most of her adult life in Bloomfield, NB.

Claire is survived by her sons: John (Jane) and Laurie (Mary); son-in-law Michael Rideout and her brother Harold Price (Shirley). She had 9 grandchildren: Jacob (Olivia), Jennie, Cory (Jessica), Cole (Victoria), Kelti (Colby), Chris (Katlyn), Claire (Griffen), Jake (Natalie) and Jordan and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Claire was predeceased by her loving husband Sterling; daughter Peggy Rideout; grandson Dwayne Rideout; brother Murray Price (Florence); sisters: Shirley Setzkie (Robert) and Ollie Gulliver (Glendon); brothers and sisters -in-law: Thomas Sandford (Pat), William Sandford, Mary (Sandford) McLaughlin (Roland), Nora (Sandford) Tayes (Wallace), Ella (Sandford) McLaughlin (Henry), Bella (Sandford) Cornfield (Jim) and Nathaniel Sandford (Mona).

Claire was so grateful to have such wonderful friends in the community of Bloomfield. If there was a trip on the calendar, she was the first in the car and the last one out. She loved her quilting outings, and there was never a lack of material, pattern, or colour palette that could not be found to match a quilt on the go in all of Kings County. “Check with Claire, she probably has something to match that!” Every one of her children and grandchildren have been gifted a quilt over the years and her great grandchildren baby quilts as well. She was a very gifted quilter, knitter and could crotchet also.

She loved her bus trips with her friend Greta and made many friends along the way. Her trip to Scotland with Janice Hayes was a trip of a lifetime. She loved every church, castle ruin and sheep roadblock they came across.

Claire loved her community of Bloomfield and gave back every way she could, whether it was working the Strawberry Festivals, yard sales or bake sales. Her friendships were her lifeline, as Claire never drove, she was often seen as a passenger. Her family would like to thank all those who included her in the shenanigans.

Gram (Great Gram) loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart. She loved to see them come to visit and they could just about get away with anything. They always got treats and specially wrapped gifts when they were sick. “What happened at Gram’s (Great Gram’s) house stays at Grams”

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 2:00pm at Christ Church, Bloomfield, NB. Interment will take place in Christ Church Cemetery, Bloomfield, NB.
