Obituary of Lee Thorne

It is with great sadness that the family of Berton Lee Thorne announce his passing which occurred on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born in Jemseg, NB, on January 3, 1944, he was the son of the late Earl and Ella (Farris) Thorne.

Lee is survived by his loving wife Wendy Thorne of Hampton, NB; daughters: Cheri (Mathurin) Thorne of Dieppe, NB and Lindsay Vaughan (Mel) of Saint John, NB; grandchildren: Nicolette Mathurin, Nadia Mathurin, Amelia Bell, Isla Bell and Freya Bell; brother Neil Thorne of Jemseg, NB; sister Louise Austin of Jemseg, NB; brother-in-law Larry Eglington; sister-in-law Theresa Eglington (Ken); as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Lee was predeceased by his sister-in-law Donna Thorne; and brother-in-law Percy Austin.

Lee was a loving husband and father of two daughters and five granddaughters. He finished out his career as the VP of Trent Industrial Contractors in Saint John from which he retired in 2007. He grew up in Jemseg, NB and moved to Hampton, NB in 1970 with his wife Wendy where they remained until this day. Lee was a 'jack of all trades' and took pride in building his own home, rebuilding his tractor as well as his annual garden. He was always there to help when someone needed assistance or project advice. Over the last few years, he enjoyed many hours of watching their local wildlife on their property with various birds, deer, and other little critters which he'd at times catch red-handed on his trail-cam.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 12 to 2PM, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00PM all from Reid’s Funeral Home. Interment will take place in the spring at the Jemseg Community Cemetery, Jemseg, NB.
