Peter Ledermann

Obituary of Peter Ledermann

It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Ledermann announces his passing which occurred September 21, 2022, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

The following is Peter’s story, in his own words:

“I was born on September 3rd, 1943, as the oldest son of Elisabeth and Fritz Ledermann – Ottiger. Over the next few years my brothers Fritz and Toni enlarged our family and in 1953 the family was completed with our beautiful sister Renate. Together we were raised in the scenic village of Faulensee on the Lake of Thun in Switzerland.

After my education I did my military training as a Machine Gunner.

On April 24th, 1965, I immigrated to Canada, a place I wanted to visit for a year. After my first year in Toronto, I was hooked on Canada. I enjoyed 22 years in this city and took advantage of its many opportunities, such as Concert Series, The Canadian Opera Company, Theaters, etc. It was also a convenient hub to explore the Province of Ontario. I worked as a cost accountant at Inglis appliance manufacturers and at ITT Aimco, a car parts manufacturer.

In the early 80’s I spent many vacations and holidays with my friends Brigitte and Vaughan Langen in Hampton. During these visits I fell in love with this part of the country. When they told me that they planned to build a new home, it did not take me long to tell them, that I would be buying their place. On March 31st, 1987, I arrived in Hampton and started a new life in the Maritimes. Unfortunately, my friend Vaughan could only enjoy his new home for about a year, before he passed away.

On May 24th, 1993, I married my soulmate and best friend Brigitte, who hailed from my hometown, and through fate’s twist ended up being my neighbour in Hampton, NB. I spent the last 35 years doing bookkeeping for small businesses in the Hampton, Sussex, and Saint John area. I would like to thank my clients, Pat Shea, Ted Harley, Holly Sing and Glen McLean for their years of support.

I am sad to leave behind my loving wife Brigitte; my brother Fritz (Ruth); my sister Renate Bach (Herbert); my aunt Theres Ottiger and my cousins from the Ottiger Clan; my brothers-in-law: Edi Germann (Uschy) and Ernst Germann (Heidi); my nieces and nephews; special friends: Suzanne Nowak, Glen McLean, Mary Ellen and Blake Brunsdon and Julia, David; and our goddaughter Jillian McMillan; as well as my feline love, Shipley.

During my last year I was grateful to have the support of my doctors: Dr. Webb, Dr. Allaby, Dr. Marr, Dr. Mowat and Dr. Will O’Brian. Thank you for being there for me.

Observing my wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation. A Celebration of my life will be held at a later date, with family and close friends.

The ocean of Spirit has become the little bubble of my soul.  Whether floating in birth, or disappearing in death, in the ocean of cosmic awareness the bubble of my life cannot die, I am indestructible consciousness, protected in the bosom of Spirit’s immortality.
