Obituary of Freda Adelaide Sheldrick
It is with great sadness that the family of Freda Adelaide Sheldrick announces her death, which took place Monday, September 13, 2021 at Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Long Reach, NB on August 13, 1918, Freda was the daughter of the late Edwin and Gertrude (Williams) Holder.
Freda is survived by her loving daughters Dianne Scott (Mansel) of Saint John, NB, Donna Lamb of Clifton Royal, NB, Terry Barlow (Rick) of Summerville, NB, Debbie Whittaker (Larry) of Saint John, and Lori Sheldrick of Saint John; by daughter-in-law Juanita Sheldrick; by grandchildren Cindy, Kim, Lee, Lisa, Lesley, Jody, Andrew, Laura, Mary, Tara, Leigh, and Sam; and by great-grandchildren Nolan, Emma, Lilly, Mya, Aidan, Rebekah, Angelica, and Makaila; as well as many extended family members. In addition to her parents, Freda was predeceased by her adoring husband Sam Sheldrick, son William Sheldrick, and siblings Lorina Holder, Marguerite Holder, Byron Holder, Donald Holder (Lucina), Betty Ritchie (Don), and Frederick Holder (Faye).
Freda enjoyed the gift of a long and full life — and what an exciting time to be alive, from the era of the First World War and well into the age of space travel, smartphones, and beyond.
Freda loved making things with her hands and was a skilled knitter, quilter, dressmaker, and baker. She was a life member of her local branch of the Anglican Church Women of Canada. She enjoyed travelling by motorhome, and spoke fondly of her and Sam’s time on an Alaskan cruise where they spent the evenings dancing and enjoying the company of friends.
Above all, anybody who had the pleasure of knowing Freda will remember her best for an easygoing approach to life and a wonderful laugh that went with it — a laugh that could always be heard at the big Sunday family dinners she loved to host.
Freda’s family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit for taking such good care of ‘Nana’.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where a public visitation will take place on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. An interment will follow at All Saints Anglican Church Cemetery, Clifton Royal.
