Obituary of Ethel Hannah Sommerville

It is with great sadness that the family of Ethel Sommerville announces her passing, which occurred on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Barnesville, NB, on February 12, 1924, she was a daughter of the late William and Jemima (Hosford) Rodgers.

Ethel loved her family deeply, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to bake and took great joy in making sure that everyone left her house with a full belly. She lived a quiet life with her husband Ernest, attending church for many years, and always read her bible faithfully. For many years they would play cards every other weekend with her sister Greta, and brother-in-law Andrew. She enjoyed getting together with her family whenever possible.

Ethel is survived by her loving son, Bob (Brenda) Sommerville of Saint John, NB; and her grandchildren: Michael (Shelley), Cindy, Marc (Ginger), Scott (Nina), Evan (Shauna), and Geoffrey (Rachel); and 9 great-grandchildren. Ethel is also survived by her brother, Arnold Rodgers; her sisters: Hazel Davis, Greta Carson, and Doris Graham; her close friend & sister-in-law, Hazel Rodgers; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Ethel is predeceased by her husband Ernest; her son, Keith; her brother, Fred; her sister, Annie; and her close friend and sister-in-law, Mary.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where public visitation will be held on Sunday, January 31st, from 2:00 to 6:00PM. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a private immediate-family funeral service. An interment will be held at a later date.
