Obituary of Bea Scully

The death of Beatrice "Bea" Margaret (Sturrock) Scully, of Rothesay, NB wife of the late Frank Scully, occurred on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre. She was born on March 9, 1923 in Sunny Nook, AB, a daughter of the late John and Ann (Henderson) Sturrock. Bea was born in a small town near Calgary and like most of her generation, attended a one room school house. After graduation Bea decided that she liked working with numbers and worked throughout her life as a bookkeeper. It is fitting that she met her husband, Frank, while skating at an arena. While it took Frank a long time to work up the nerve to ask Bea for a "skate", it didn’t take the two of them long to realize they had found the real thing. This resulted in a marriage of 65 years. Bea loved golfing and curling and was a long time member of Riverside Golf & Country Club. Bea also played bridge and organized many events. What many people remember about Bea was her passion for gardening. Bea’s flower gardens were truly remarkable. With her quick smile and unassuming grace, Bea has lived a full life. She will be missed. Bea is survived by her daughters: Mary (John) Breen of Hampton, NB, Margo (Terry) Hilchey of Pictou, NS; sons: Edward (Patricia) Scully of Ponteix, SK, Paul (Nilah) Scully of Hampton, NB and; 12 grandchildren, David, Doug Scully, Colleen Callaghan, Tim, Gregory, Jack, Patrick Breen, Michael, Hillary Scully, Candace Farris, Jeff, Cathy Hilchey; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Bewell and brothers Ken, Bob and Donald. She is resting at Reid’s Funeral Home, 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, (506) 832-5541, with visitation on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial, conducted by Father Stan Paulin will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Rothesay, NB on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Saint John, NB. Donations in memory of Bea may be made to the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre or to the memorial of the donor’s choice.
