It is with sadness, that the family of Frederick Murray Campbell, also known as Ted, age 79, of Southfield, NB, announces his death, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, after a long battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Fred was born on January 14, 1936 in Southfield, NB, the son of the late Frederick and Vessie (Campbell) Campbell. Freddie spent his last few months at the Saint John Regional Hospital. His family and friends are very grateful to have had the opportunity to spend time sharing their feelings and reflecting on old times. Freddie was a man who was loved and respected by those around him. He was a calm man, a patient man, and a caring man. He was never one to waste a nice day indoors. He was passionate about nature. He loved the shade of trees growing over the riverbanks, and the soft babble of brooks. All his life he enjoyed fishing and passed this on to his children and grandchildren. He could tell you where the best holes were to find fish, and he could remember his biggest catches over the years. He prided himself on being self-sufficient by living off the land. He was one with his surroundings, taking from it only what he needed. He spent many a day cutting and splitting his own wood, tending to his vegetable gardens, stalking deer, and catching fish. But, Freddie was also a people person and a great motivator. During the summer he coached baseball in Hampton, and his team even won a championship. In the winter he coached the Hampton Flames hockey team, they won a cup under his watchful eye and wise instruction. For many the years fade away as we age, until we can only remember vague glimpses of how things used to be in "the good old days", but Freddie was an astute record keeper and kept notebooks full of measures and observations. He could tell you how much snow fell in January, twenty years ago, and how much the oil cost to keep the house warm that winter. A natural salesman, Freddie had an interest in numbers as much as he had an interest in the people around him. He was a hard worker and a loving husband, father and grandfather. Those that knew Freddie will miss him, and those that never had the chance missed out on knowing a great man. Freddie Campbell. Freddie is survived by his loving wife, Melita and his five children; Leigh Campbell and his wife Mary of Hampton, NB, Curtis Campbell of Hampton, NB, Carolyn Burns and her husband Malcolm of Norton, NB, Beverly Campbell of Hampton, NB, Jonathan Campbell and his wife Angela of Norton, NB; grandchildren: Lisa, Jamie, Aaron, Caleb, Holly-Anna, Job, Kaleigh, Kaitlin, Jamie, Michael, Nicole, Olivia and Ava; great-grandchildren: Jessie, Jena, Jaden, Brady, Alexis, Lucy, Ella; great-great granddaughter, Delilah; as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton, with visitation on Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Karen MacNeill will be held from Southfield United Church at 11:00 am on Friday, February 13, 2015. Interment will take place in Southfield United Cemetery in the spring. Donations in memory of Fred may be made to Southfield United Church or to the memorial of the donor’s choice.
