Obituary of Marguerite Hopey

The death of Marguerite "Maggie" Elizabeth Hopey of St. Martins, NB, wife of the late Walter Hopey occurred on Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in St. Martins, on June 20, 1926, a daughter of the late Norman and Sarah (McNeil) McLeod. Marguerite was a life long resident of St. Martins where she was an active member of the St. Martins Baptist Church, L.O.B.A.#1190 since 1949, St. Martins Seniors and the Missionary Society. She also supported and participated in the Fundy Trail Cancer walks. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, bus trips to the U.S. and bingo birthday parties with her family. Marguerite is survived by one daughter Krisann Richardson and her husband Dallas of St. Martins, NB; one son Stephen Hopey and his wife Laverne of St. Martins, NB; four grandchildren Tisha and Conrad Richardson, Shawn and Ashley Hopey; sisters Norveline Hopey, Penelope Berry, Norma Sangster and her husband Alexander,; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Elmira Dobbin, Olive Bradshaw; brothers Lawrence, Raymond, Harley and her step-mother Helen McLeod. She is resting at St. Martins Baptist Church with visitation on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Geoff deJong, will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 11:00am from St. Martins Baptist Church, followed by interment in St. Martins Community Cemetery. The arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton. Donations in memory of Marguerite, may be made to the St. Martins Baptist Church, St Martins Seniors Group or to the memorial of donor’s choice.
