Obituary of Doreen Brittain

It is with great sadness, the family wishes to announce the death of Doreen Gladys Brittain of Hampton, NB, widow of Kenneth Brittain which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Saturday, April 5, 2014. She was born on December 31, 1931 in Woodstock, NB, a daughter of the late Willis and Ella (Purvis) Love. Born in Bull's Creek, Doreen then moved to Fredericton where she was active in high-school basketball. After marrying Ken they moved to Montreal where they raised four children and several dogs. She and Ken travelled extensively living in such locales as Colombia, California, Guyana, Afghanistan, Calgary and Indonesia. She settled back in New Brunswick and enjoyed the last 30 years with family including grand and great grandchildren. The quilters numbered among her wonderful friends. Doreen is survived by her son Sydney Brittain and his wife Liz of Hampton, NB; daughters: Peggy Chartrand and her husband Claude of Vancouver, BC, Judy Brittain of Saint John and Kim Brittain and her husband Denis of Gatineau, QC; grandchildren: Jenny, Amy, Ellen, Louis, Emily, Elijah, Felice, Caitlin, Alex, Emma and Louise; eight great grandchildren; brother David Love and his wife Eleanor; sister Verna Higham; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Doreen was predeceased by her brother Hilton Love; and sisters Grace Downey and Shirley MacTavish. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home, 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB (506-832-5541). A private memorial service for the family will be held in memory of Doreen. All friends are invited to a time of fellowship on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 12:00 to 2:00pm at the Hampton River Centre, 1075 Main Street, Hampton, NB.
