Dearest Heather and family We went to Montreal in 1971 and had the nicest neighbours in 3610 McTavish we could have wished for. Heather and John were godparents to our daughter Sarah and it is with the greatest sadness that we learn of John's passing. He was a great friend and the world was better for him.

Dear Auntie Heather, Sending love and wishes for strength and peace at this difficult time. Not 3 months ago as we were packing up the house in Singapore, I was showing our Holly my box of keepsakes, and in there was the collection of 8 little coffee spoons, you and Uncle John used to give me each birthday. I am sorry to have missed a chance to say goodbye to him, but am glad to tell you of the lovely bright and happy memories I still have of those visits. Thank you for everything, all my love, Sarah.

Sherrill Wiseman posted a condolence
Dear Heather, Anne and John, I was so sorry to hear about John's death. I was lucky enough to work with John in the Kidney Transplant Clinic at the Health Sciences in Winnipeg for 4 or 5 years. I think I was the luckiest nurse in the place. Your husband, Dad was quietly extraordinary. In all those years I had never witnessed an outburst or a temper tantrum no matter what went on. He was always even keeled, cheerful, kind, thoughtful and unbelievably progressive. He was, I believe, the only physician in the place to insist that his nurse be allowed to audit physical diagnosis with the medical students. I remember one day, the wife of one of our patients came in and told me that although she couldn't put a finger on any symptom specifically she was sure there was something wrong with him. It was just a gut feeling she said, and I went to your Dad and said " She has a gut feeling there is something terrible wrong, I think she knows him better than anyone and we should get some test." On nothing more than having respect for her gut feeling and my belief in her gut feeling he ordered a workup. They found cancer. Extraordinary! I remember one day we were sitting chatting waiting for our clinic to start and some other doctor came in and threw a stethoscope at me barking "Get me some blood pressures"! Your Dad jumped off the table, grabbed the stethoscope, tossed it back at him and said "She works with me, get your own blood pressures." Extraordinary. I remember Heather when you and John came to dinner at out house before we left for Vancouver and I badly overcooked the baked potatoes, I believe John chipped a tooth on one! Not a blink or deviation from the calm, pleasant and always cheerful demeanour. I felt so badly but he made it into a nothing. I was so glad I had the opportunity on a visit back to Winnipeg and the hospital one afternoon before you left to tell him how extraordinary I thought he was and how lucky I felt I had been in being able to work with him. Your loss is great. Please know whatever help my sympathy can bring is yours in abundance. Lve Sherrill Wiseman
