I remember Vella very well. My mother and Vella became friends when they worked at Eaton's together. When my mother Phyllis started working at a store on Avenue Road in the 1970's Vella soon joined her. I also went to work there as the office girl and we three women shared many laughs. I do remember that Vella loved to laugh. The store was Knowles custom Slipcovers.
Vella was a great comfort to my mother when my brother's well killed in two separate car accidents. She was a very caring women.
I also remember that she also had many losses in her life and her journey wasn't always an easy one. Even so she always seemed to have a smile for everyone.
I hadn't seen Vella in some 30 years or so and I accidentally stumbled on her Obituary and yet I still felt a sweet and gentle warmness come over me as I read that she lived to the ripe old age of 96.
I will drink a toast to Vella this evening when I have my glass of wine.
I do hope that you get a chance to see this message and know that someone remembered your loved one and is thinking of her today.
My most sincere sympathy to you.
You lost a very dear woman.
