David Dix

Obituary of David Dix

The Dix family is sad to announce the death of David Dix, May 17 2020, at home, after a diagnosis of untreatable cancer in November 2019. David was born in Newport, Wales UK in 1940. David spent a number of his years in Canada in Malton and Acton, ON, and more recently in Sussex, Hampton and Nauwigewauk, NB. David is predeceased by his father Benjamin Jabez Dix, mother Mary Agnes (Manley), sister Mary Dix and son-in-law Wayne Croke. David is survived by his spouse Karen (White) Dix, son Gareth Dix (Bailey Brogan), daughters Julie Croke, and Susan Dix (Rick Fortier), grandchildren Rebecca Croke and Andrew Croke (Maddy Hurrell), brother John Dix (Brenda) and also Eileen (Payne) Dix, mother to Julie and Susan. David’s son likened his determination and single mindedness as akin to a force of nature. Tasks that we judged to be monumental, he planned and executed. He fought against the debilitating effects of cancer with the same determination, remaining mobile and alert until just days before his death. He retired from his employment at the Potash Corp in Penobsquis in 2005 and continued to operate his beloved pub, Fergie’s, in Sussex until 2007 (1992-2007). Alcan, American Motors Canada and Chrysler Canada were also his employers in his past work life. His dislike of Canadian winters led him to warmer climes and he found great joy in the company of his Florida friends. David’s passion for renovation never waned and he was happy to lend his considerable skills to both family and friends. His sport was soccer and over his lifetime he played it, coached it, and then followed the English Premier League as if he were still on the field. Man City was his team. Life with David was never boring. We will deeply miss the vitality and sense of adventure he introduced into our lives. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. No funeral service will be held per David’s request and a private celebration of his life will be held when circumstances allow. Donations in memory of David may be made to the memorial of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through ReidsFH.com
