It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Elizabeth Floyd, formerly of Nauwigewauk, Upham and Quispamsis, NB, announces her death which occurred on Monday, May 11, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Wallace, NS, on March 19, 1932, she was the only daughter of the late Richard Leslie and Annabelle (Rhude) MacMillan. Mary was the anchor of the family, always placing the needs of her children and her grandchildren before her own and never seeking praise or acknowledgement, and generally felt uncomfortable receiving it. Mary, Mom, Nanny, or Grammy as she was called, answered quickly to all of her names. She was the only girl with 2 older brothers (George and Hector) and 2 younger brothers (Mack and Bruce), that predeceased her. Having grown up in rural Nova Scotia, she excelled in school and quickly headed off to Business College in Truro, N.S. then off to Hamilton, Ontario to seek fame and fortune in 1950. Acquiring neither, although she did meet the love of her life, Murray, a fellow maritimer. They quickly came back to settle in New Brunswick where they raised their family of 6 boys and 1 girl. Family was always a constant theme in Mary’s life and she encouraged her children, her grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews to not lose the family connection, resulting in what we have today, a large, loud, loving, and unwieldy bunch that enjoy nothing more than getting together. Raising their family primarily on the Old Road in Nauwigewauk, she always felt that the neighborhood was like 1 big family, with the Ketchum and Floyd kids constantly in each others houses. Family was everything in thought and action. As kids moved out so did Mary and Bud, realizing a long held dream (at least for Bud) they bought a farm in Upham and enjoyed that immensely until retirement beckoned and they moved to the Stock Farm Rd in Quispamsis to be closer to family and closer to the ballooning tribe of grandchildren, where they enjoyed close to 20 years together. Mary Elizabeth Floyd made a difference and made an impact, she lives on in the faces and actions of her family. Mary is survived by her seven children and their families: Richard (Nancy) Floyd, George (Cathy) Floyd, Beth Thompson (Gerald), Sterling (Sanna) Floyd, John (Dorothy) Floyd, Jim (Cindy) Floyd and Wallace (Dana) Floyd; grandchildren: Jim Floyd (Sarah), Amy Rhyno (Scott), Devon Floyd, Justin Floyd (Kaitlyn Hagen), Kelly Thompson (Jeff Robichaud), Jill Hamer (Adrian), Krista Floyd (Joe Francis), Alice Floyd, Emily Floyd (Mike Arsenault), Jeremy Dickinson (Nathalie), Josh Dickinson (Jasmine), Andrew Floyd, Sarah Floyd, Ryan Floyd (Quinn MacIsaac), Liam Floyd, Brittany Morris (Sean Robertson – Tait) and Ben Floyd (Jessica); great grandchildren: Nolan, Spencer, Camden, Sage, Nicklas, Ayla, Matilda and Layla. Mary is also survived by her sister in-laws Marianne MacMillan, Kathy MacMillan and her brother in law Russell Floyd, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Murray "Bud" Floyd in 2015 after 64 years of marriage. Mary’s sons would like to recognize the unfailing support and comfort that our sister Beth Thompson provided to our mother, as well as the support of our spouses and our children through the past few years of care. The family would also like to acknowledge and thank the exceptional friendship, and care provided by Diane Arsenault as well as the recent care she received at the Raylee Brook Special Care Home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, and due to COVID-19 restrictions private services will be held.
