Obituary of Mary Laird

Mary Margaret Laird (Coleman or "Donnie’s Mary") of the Ravine Road in Hampton, NB, passed away peacefully in Comox, BC surrounded by loving family on Thursday, March 5th, 2020. Mary had an unconditional love for her family and her true kind character, compassion, love, patience, contagious smile, whit and grace are to be admired, cherished and celebrated every day of our lives. This love radiated far beyond her family. She dedicated her life and put her heart and soul into caring and advocating for everyone—especially children. Mary always had an open door, an extra plate to set, and her warm heart, cozy kitchen, and bottomless cups of tea soothed many a soul over her lifetime. Mary’s resilience throughout her life, especially these past few years showed her true strength and acceptance despite family conflict. Many knew they could depend upon Mary’s kindness and trustworthiness. Mary was survived by her two remaining siblings: Gerald and Helen; several nieces and nephews; seven children: Cathy, Linda, Gerald, Peter, Shirley, Polly and Ronalda; sixteen grandchildren: Stephenie, Katie, Travis, Andrew, Brandais, Percy, Samantha, Donnie, Adam, Julie, Erica, Brandon, Sarah, William, Christopher and Rebecca; and eight great-grandchildren: Rose, Lance, Donnie Jr., Ezra, Remi, Felix, Adeline, Declan, Emerson, and a little one on the way. Mary was predeceased by: her husband Donald Hugh Laird; her parents Margaret and David Coleman; siblings: Leonard, Leo, David, Vernon, Harold and Ronald along with her grandson Jordan. Mary and Donald’s humble acts of love, kindness and support extended far beyond the walls of the family home they built together. In her last moments, after given permission to join her loving husband Donald in heaven, she opened her eyes greeting her long lost love with a smile as she joined him peacefully. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB where visitation will be held on Friday, March 13th from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 14th, at 11:00 AM from St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church. Interment will take place in the spring at St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery.
