It is with great sadness that the family of Gladys Murial Gates announces her passing which occurred on Sunday, January 5, 2020, surrounded by her loving family at the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre, Hampton, NB. Born in Clarence, NS on December 24, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Effie (Rhynard) Grant. Gladys is survived by her daughter Carol Long and her husband Arthur of Hampton, NB; son Edward Gates and his wife Dorina of Belleisle Creek, NB; grandchildren: Nancy Sherwood (Lloyd), Steven Long, Gabriel Gates (Carla), Jasiah Gates, Clayton Morrell (Cheryl), John-Paul Morrell (Melissa) and Lodia Gates; nine great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; brother Kenny Grant and his wife June of Bridgetown, NS; sister Joyce Wiles of Calgary, AB; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her loving husband Ralph Gates; sisters: Mary, Idela, Ruth, Doris and Myrna; and brothers: Joe, Eddie, Freeman and George. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB where visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 4 to 7 PM. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 11:00 AM from Reid’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in the spring at Midland Cemetery. Donations in memory of Gladys may be made to Hampton Baptist Church, Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
