Obituary of Edward Bastarache
It is with sadness the family announces the death of Edward Lawrence Bastarache, age 64, of Saint John, NB, which occurred August 14, 2019, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born on August 3, 1955, in Saint John, NB, the son of the late Helen (Fournier) Bond and Edward Bastarache.
Eddie is survived by his siblings Cathy Bradley (Alonzo) of Grove Hill, NB, Daniel Bastarache of Saint John, NB, Elizabeth Craig (George) of Stratford, PE, Robert Bastarache of Saint John, NB, Michael Bastarache (Alicia) of Nova Scotia and Charlene Bastarache of Saint John, NB; his step-siblings Cheryl Stewart (James), Millie Miller (Wesley), Zonya Russell (Bradley), Della Cole (Harold), Donna Nutter (Murray), Dwight Bond (Janet), Lloyd Bond (Marilyn); his special family for the past five years Kelly and Steve Amos, whom he called Mom and Dad.
He was predeceased by his step-father, Arthur Bond, and his step-brothers Gordon Bond, Donald Bond and Stewart Bond.
Eddie worked at the Ken-Val Co-Op for 18 years as a grocery packer and cart manager, where he loved interacting with his customers. He made many lifelong connections during his career and often talked about his time there. He had a way of making every person feel special and would remember each and every one, even years later.
Eddie was a dedicated member of the Living Water congregation while he lived in Hampton. He was deeply religious and could be found playing the organ from time to time on Sunday mornings. His love of music filled his spare time. He played the organ, accordion and guitar and had a massive collection of records, tapes and CDs. Eddie loved to spend his time playing or listening to music of all genres. His musical knowledge could rival even the biggest music fanatics. He loved to sing, whether he knew the lyrics or not. He even made his singing debut at the Barnesville Kitchen party with his sister.
In his later years, Eddie became quite the athlete. He participated in the Special Olympics, playing basketball, floor hockey, bocce ball and swimming but his favourite was bowling.
Eddie was a gentle soul which could explain why he was drawn to dogs and they were drawn to him. As with everything he was passionate about, he came to be somewhat of an expert and could teach you almost anything about any breed. He was lucky to have 3 dogs in his special family, who shared the same love of music that he did. On Tuesday nights, they could all be found putting on a private concert for Steve, with Eddie on lead vocal and the dogs accompanying him.
Above all else, Eddie loved deeply. He was the strongest believer in all that is good and pure and magical. He carried an unbridled joy that touched everyone that had the pleasure to meet him. His enthusiasm for life and people could not be missed. He cherished his family, both the family he was born into and the family he chose. Because of this, he was surrounded by a large family who loved and cherished him just as much.
You will always be loved, Eddie; you will never be forgotten. Rest easy.
He is resting at Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541) 1063 Main St, Hampton, NB with visitation on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, from 2:00-4:00-pm and from 6:00-8:00pm. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Tom Price, will be held at Living Water Pentecostal Church at 11:00am on Thursday, August 22, 2019.
