Obituary of Raymond N. Smith

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Norman Smith, of Hampton, NB; husband of Louise R (Totten) Smith; son of the late Oscar and Delia Smith. In addition to his wife of 51 years he is survived by his children, son Raymond (Sarah) Smith of Hampton, daughter Myrna Smith of Hampton, daughter Nicole (Justin) Craft of Salt Springs, daughter Jennifer (Jeremy Chown) Robichaud of Sussex, son William Robichaud of Hampton; five grandchildren, Taylor, Emma, Harper, Charlotte, and Brantley along with 3 step-grandchildren, Melissa, Curtis and Craig; sister Doreen (Ken) Floyd of Fredericton and brother David (Marion) Smith of Riverview, sister in law Irene (Ed) Boucher of Saint John, sister in law, Etta Jones of Otter Lake, sister in law Audrey Lowe of Barnsville, brother in law Henry (Marie) Totten of Saint John; along with many nieces and nephews. Raymond was predeceased by his sisters and their spouses; Melva and Norman Clarke, and Lola and Wilfred Steeves, brother in law Francis Totten and sister in law Shirley Bradley. Born in Saint John, NB on July 2, 1943, he was the youngest child of Oscar and Delia Smith, moving from Titusville to Hampton in 1951, Raymond still lived in the home his father built for them. Raymond was well known in the community, having operated R.N. Smith Contracting and Hampton Floorings for many years. In later years he worked as a custodian at the Dr. V. A. Snow Centre, drove school bus and retired from the District 6 School Board as Maintenance Carpenter. Raymond served his community for many years as a Volunteer Firefighter and Ambulance Attendant. As an active member of Hampton Baptist Church, Raymond served in many areas and had a heart for children to learn of God’s love for them. Over the years Raymond also served on the boards of Camp Tulakadik and Hampton Bible Camp. He was well known as a regular at the former Kozy Korner and more recently with his buddies at Tim Horton’s. Raymond leaves behind a rich legacy of love for children and community and a heart to help others. The family wishes to thank the Doctors and Nurses of Saint John Regional Hospital Emergency, ICU and OR departments for the care, kindness and compassion during Ray’s final day with them. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 14th from 2- 4 and 6- 8pm. The funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, May 15th at Hampton Baptist Church. Interment will be in Barnesville Presbyterian Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Raymond can be made to Hampton Baptist Church, Awana Canada, Hampton Bible Camp, Hampton Food Basket or the charity of the donor’s choice.
