Obituary of William Hamilton Brittain

** PLEASE NOTE: A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY, NOVMEBER 2nd, 2019 @ 10:00am. A RECEPTION WILL FOLLOW AT THE LIGHTHOUSE RIVER CENTRE.** It is with great sadness that the family of William "Bill" Hamilton Brittain announce his passing on April 27, 2019 at the age of 86. He was born in Welsford and grew up in Coote Hill and Armstrong’s Corner, Queen’s County. He was the son of William Harold Brittain and Bessie Hamilton, and brother of Kenneth Gerald Brittain (deceased). Bill studied Forestry at UNB, graduating in 1954, and then again in 1958 with a Master’s Degree. He met Loretta Dodds at UNB and they married in 1956. They enjoyed a devoted and loving marriage for 57 years. Bill worked for McMillan-Rothesay in Saint John, was Executive Director of Forestry for Irving, faculty at the Maritime Forest Ranger School (now called the Maritime College of Forest Technology), and in retirement was owner and operator a woodlot and "Bill’s Mill". Bill will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his good nature, patience and kindness. Bill loved the outdoors and was especially talented in woodworking. His family share memories of wonderful summer vacations at the farm in Welsford and the cottage at Lake Utopia. He passed along a fondness for nature, and of course, beagles. Bill is survived by his son, Rod Brittain (MaryLee) of Halifax, NS; his daughter Carolyn Brittain of Logan, Utah; his grandchildren Kelsea and Hanna Brooks; his nephew Syd Brittain (Liz); niece Peggy (Claude Chartrand); niece Judy; niece Kim (Denis Boisvert); and his dear partner and guardian angel Marilyn Machum. The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers of Parkland in the Valley, Quispamsis. We will always remember your kindness and compassion. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, from where a memorial service will be held 10 am Saturday, November 2, 2019. A time of fellowship will be held immediately following the service at the Lighthouse River Centre. Interment will be in Welsford Valley Cemetery. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to a memorial of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and memorial donations may be made through ReidsFH.
