Obituary of Lillian H. Anderson

In the early morning on March 10, 2019, Lillian Henrietta Anderson (nee Henderson) passed away peacefully at her home in Nauwigewauk, which she had shared with her loving husband, Murray for 43 years. Born on Darlings Island on March 21, 1920, Lillian died within sight of her first home. Her influence, however, was considerably broader. Lillian completed her nurses training in St Stephen, graduating on D-Day, 1944. She remained a nurse at heart throughout her life caring for the very young and the very old. She was devoted to and took strength from her family, her Nauwigewauk community and the Nauwigewauk Christian Church. Dear to her heart were ‘her Brownies’ and her Sunday school children. She volunteered for many groups, and in 2012 she received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her work with the Kings County Museum. Her nominators described her as "a joyful spirit who is alive in every moment". Lillian loved ‘get-togethers’ which could include any or all of the following: dancing, ice skating, parades, kitchen parties, road trips and anything to do with family. In later years, she was particularly in awe of the natural world – the deer that wandered down her driveway, the birds that gathered at her back door in the spring, clouds and jet streams, and sunsets. Survived by her children Susan, Leslie (Greg O’Brien), Michael (Linda), Gregory (Cathy), Mary Jane and Beverly; sisters Joan and Norma (Bob Compton) and brother Ronald, sister-in-law Norma Cook; 11grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Lillian was predeceased by her husband Murray, her parents, Gladys and Percy Henderson, siblings Louise Dickson, Irene Donahue, Jim Henderson and Marilyn Henderson. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from 3:00 – 8:00pm. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 2:00pm from Reid’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in the spring at Hampton Rural Cemetery. The family wishes to extend many thanks and gratitude to Dr. James Collings and the Extra-Mural staff. Donations in memory of Lillian may be made to the Hampton Food Basket or to a memorial of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and memorial donations may be made through ReidsFH.com
