It is with heavy hearts that the family of Alice Ellen Legere of Passekeag announce her passing at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, February 28, 2019. Born in Saint John NB, 69 years ago she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Brown) Lee. Alice will be remembered for her strength, her compassion for others and for her lessons she taught all that knew her. She was always there as a listening ear for anyone who needed her, especially for her daughter and granddaughter. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother and she was adored by anyone who met her. From the time she was a little girl she had a passion for hairstyling, She had dolls that she would try to cut hair on as a kid. As she grew up she moved towards her goals to become the best hairdresser she could be and went to beauty school and got her license and spent many years enjoying the job she chose. One of her favourite activities was shopping, if there was a store between here and Calais she would know it’s inventory. Even when she became sick she she still went to the stores leaving the people she was shopping with begging to go home. Alice had strength unlike any other, the amount she overcame and the amount of struggle she went through was more than most could have bared but yet she never gave up, she fought hard right until the end. She loved to cook and was the best chef, she would be thinking about what’s for supper almost a week in advance and There was never a shortage of food in the Legere residence. She would always cook enough to feed the Canadian army said anyone who came for dinner. She always enjoyed her sister Nancy’s visits, she would bring her all the sweets she wasn’t supposed to have as a diabetic and then she would rat her out to her doctor saying "my sister made it!". Another favourite pass time was reading, she loved to read and she would get so upset if someone forgot to get her the next issue of woman’s world. She also enjoyed spending time with the people who mattered the most to her, The bond she had with her granddaughter and daughter was a family bond like no other, no one could tear them apart. She was always the one to remind the whole family about important events like birthdays, she could remember everyone’s birthday even in her older age and to this day we still don’t know how she did it. She was a Christian who believed strongly in her faith, she loved to read the bible, go to church and she loved to hear the word of god from anywhere she could. She will be greatly missed and always remembered by those who had the honour to know her in her time on earth. The family would like to give a huge thank you to all the people who have helped her, a special thanks to her sister Nancy for being there and making her days easier and especially a big thank you to dr. Collings and the extra mural staff because without you she wouldn’t have had the quality of life that she had and deserved. Alice is survived by her loving husband, Peter Legere, her daughter Kimberley Jack of Sherwood Park, AB, a sister; Nancy Dunlop (Winston) of Hampton, her brothers; Edward Lee (Linda) of Cambridge Narrows and Robert Lee (Carol) of Saint John and her only grandchild; Mariah Jack. Alice was predeceased by 3 brothers; Jimmy, Peter and Richard, 4 sisters; Kay, Rose, Carol and Norma. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, at the family’s request there will not be any visitation or service.
