It is with great sadness that the family of Norman E. Cole of Nauwigewauk announce his passing at his home surrounded by his loving family, on Friday October 19, 2018, at the age of 83. Born in Saint John, Norman was a son of the late Thomas and Rena (Northrup) Cole. Norman is survived by his wife Florence (Ross) Cole, 2 sons; Steven Cole of Hampton and Daniel Cole (Ella Corvelo) of Rothesay, 4 daughters; Carolyn Snow (Jeff), of Hampton, Evelyn Arseneau (Terry) of Hampton, Norma Soucy (Danny) of Hampton and Sandra London (Allen) of Saint John, 2 brothers; Brendan Cole (Phyllis) of Anglemont, BC and Gary Cole of Fredericton, 1 sister; Eileen Higgins of Fredericton, 14 grandchildren; Jason, Craig, Sabrina, Trisha, Keri, Tara, Kelly, Vicki, Sonya, Corrine, Gail, Thomas, Leanne and Nathan, 21 great-grandchildren; Jack, Lauren, Oliver, Julia, Paige, Marley, Allister, Tristen, Ty, Isaac, Tiana, Michael, Mikaya, Haley, Ben, Jaden, Maddux, Avery, Nicole, Alison and Jeremy and 1 great-great-grandchild; Camden. Norman was predeceased by a son; David Cole, a daughter; Marilyn Aevis, a brother; Thomas Cole, a brother-in-law; Glendon Higgins, 2 sisters-in-law; Eleanor (Wright) Cole and Valerie (Burke) Cole and a nephew; James Cole. Norm served for three years in the Royal Canadian Army Pay Corp. (PF). Leaving the service in 1955, his career included management roles with Beatty Brothers Appliances, Canada Packers, and Lantic Sugar. He owned and operated Coles Ultramar in Nauwigewauk, for over 47 years as well as other enterprises in Saint John and Hampton. An active sportsman throughout his life, he excelled in hockey, baseball, and softball. He curled and was involved with the Hampton Curling club for several years. He was a key founder and director for many years of the Hampton Golf Club. He has enjoyed golfing in Hampton and Florida for the last several years. Norm really enjoyed his pool and loved sharing it with family and friends. He loved tending his garden, especially riding his tractor and took great pride in grooming his property. Norm also enjoyed earning his pilot’s license, boating with family and friends and playing his violin with the most beautiful girl in the world. Norm will be remembered by all who knew him for his keen and curious mind, wonderful wry wit and great generous heart. He will be dearly missed. His family would like to thank the many Doctors, Nurses and med student Chris, for the exceptional care he received while in hospital. Also, to the wonderful nurses from extra- mural for his home care. Thank you to all. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home, Hampton (506-832-5541) There will be no visitation or funeral service, however the family is hosting a Celebration of Norman’s life on Thursday October 25th, 2018 between 5:00-7:00 pm at the Lighthouse River Centre, 1075 Main St, Hampton. All are welcome. Private family interment will be in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations in memory of Norman may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
