Obituary of Ronald Smith

It is with heavy hearts the family of Ronald Smith of Hampton announce his passing on October 6th 2018 at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre in Hampton. Ronald was born in Hampton NB 82 years ago, a son of the late Ronald and Esther (Jones) Smith. Ronald is survived by his wife Dorothy (O’Brien) Smith of Hampton, his sons; Brian Smith of Sussex, Thom Smith (Carrie) of Moncton, and step-son Kyle Rumson (Angie) of Ripples, his daughters; Debbie Tibbetts of Saint John, Pam Painter of Saint John, Step-daughter Kim Rumson of Saint John and step-daughter Rhonda Rumson of Rothesay, seven brothers; Carl Smith (Myrna) of Salt Springs, John Smith (Dot) of Barnesville, Edward Smith (Betty) of Titusville, Gerald Smith (Jean) of Titusville, William Smith (Marlene) of Nauwigewauk, Curtis Smith (Linda) of Titusville and Sterling Smith (Rita) of Alberta, 2 sisters; Yvonne Clark (Jack) of Sussex and Carol Casey (Bob) of Barnesville, 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Ronald was predeceased by a son-in-law; John Painter and a brother Robert Smith. Ron started a career as a mechanic at a young age and worked in garages in Martinon, Westfield, Saint John and Hampton and for many years had his own garage. He also worked for several years at Irving Paper as an industrial mechanic. Ron was the oldest of his family and coming from such a large family he had strong family values and had a heart as big as the great outdoors. He enjoyed sports and in his younger years supported his sons in minor hockey and coached his wife's softball team. He loved to fish, hunt and simply walking through the woods and enjoying nature. He was a resident of Dr. V. A. Snow's Nursing Home since 2015 and was known for his kind and gentle manner and his sense of humour. The family wants to thank everyone at Dr. V. A. Snow's for the exceptional care given to Ron. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Monday, October 8th 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm and Tuesday October 9th 2018 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 10th, 2018 at 11:00am from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Barnesville, NB. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery. Donations in memory of Ronald may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
