Obituary of Helen Tayes

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Helen Patricia Tayes announce her passing which occurred at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on Thursday, September 27, 2018. Born in Perry Point, NB, on June 23, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Mary (Clark) Lamb. Helen was a homemaker and worked extremely hard in her vegetable garden and around the house. She could often be seen pickling and making preserves, always making use of her time. Using the old style ringer washing machine, Helen would work earnestly cleaning clothes and would even extend her cleaning skills to others, cleaning homes for various folks in French Village and Hampton. She enjoyed having friends over to play cards, sing together and play guitar. Her favorite things were to sing and dance to the music. During the later years of her life at Kiwanis, she loved to attend activities such as bingo, manicures, and would sing along at the musical events. Helen was a feisty resident, and was known to always speak what was on her mind. Helen is survived by the love of her life, Frederick Jones of Penobsquis, NB; son, Paul Tayes and his wife Michelle of French Village, NB; daughters: Rose Marie Isenor of Sussex, NB, and Sharon Kelly and her husband Michael of Hampton, NB; sisters: Alma Erb and Marina Lemon; sister-in-law, Annette Lamb; eight grandchildren: Christopher DeSylva, Melissa DeSylva, Megan Tayes, Michael Tayes(Amy) Kyle Tayes, Michaela Kelly, Emily Kelly and Liam Kelly; one great grandchild, Dawson DeSylva; special lifelong friend, Gladys Kellar; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her first husband Wesley; brothers: Murray, Wilfred, Frederick, Percy and Donald; sister, Marion; and great grandchild Gavin Kent. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11:00am from St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Upham, NB, with Archdeacon Robert Marsh presiding. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery. The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Allaby, Dr. Butler and all the staff at the Kiwanis Nursing Home for the care that was given to Helen during her stay.
