Obituary of Bernice Elizabeth Jones
It is with heavy hearts the family of Bernice Elizabeth Jones aged 96 of Hampton, announce her passing on Thursday morning, August 30th 2018 at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre, Hampton. Born in Saint John she was the daughter of the late Seldon Herrington and Muriel (Braydon) and step father David Cochrane. Bernice is survived by her children; Fred Jones (Heather) of Welsford NB, Stephen Jones (Linda Lawton) of Hampton, Elizabeth Brittain (Sydney) of Hampton, Peter Jones (Diane) of Whitby ON , sister; Mavis Vallis of Saint John, 11 grandchildren; Lori, Rachel, Jennifer, Amy, Ellen, Jeremiah, Katie, Juliane, Derek, Kristy and Stephanie; 10 great grandchildren; Caden, Sarah, Hudson, Isabella, Cassidy, Will, Emily, Justin, Henry and Jillian.
Bernice was predeceased by her husband Stanley Jones and her infant sister Shirley.
Bernice spent many years in Welsford where she met her lifelong partner, Stanley Jones. They married and remained best friends, with his passing in 1993.
She took great pride in raising their four children, where they grew up in the Welsford community, made many life long friends & countless memories there.
In their mid Life, Bernice & Stanley moved to Ontario where she enjoyed working in a wool shop & began knitting for grandchildren. After retirement, They moved to Hampton to be closer to family & friends. They enjoyed spending the winters in Florida & travelling overseas with their closest friends.
A constant in Bernice’s life was that she made many close friends wherever she went. She was a member of the Hampton United Church & worked effortlessly for the UCW, Quilters, Red Hatters, as well as an avid supporter for Veterans.
Her remaining years were spent at the Dr. VA Snow Center where she continued to make new friendships. Bernice was widely known for her loving & nurturing soul. Even when she was the one needing nurturing, she was still caring and thinking of others.
She was cared for by everyone of the loving staff at the Dr. VA Snow Center, where they fostered the perfect loving home & family for her.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB where a memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 2:00 pm.
Following the service everyone is invited to a Celebration of Bernice’s life at the Lighthouse River Centre, Hampton.
