It is with sad hearts we announce the death of our mother Elsie Eileen Mercer, age 93 years, wife of the late Warren S. Mercer, of Bloomfield, Kings County, NB which occurred on August 18, 2018 at the Kiwanis Nursing Home, Sussex, NB. She was born on April 7, 1925 in Bloomfield Ridge, Kings County, the eldest child of the late John T. and Ethel S. (Mercer) Tays. Elsie attended grade school at Titusville School and from the age of nine through seventeen years she lived with and assisted in the home of her paternal grandparents who lived at Titusville, NB. In her late teen years she was employed by the Canada Veneer Plant in Saint John, manufacturers of veneer wood products for the construction of WW II DeHavill and Mosquito bomber aircraft. In 1945 she married Warren S. Mercer; she was a loving homemaker and mother and they resided in Bloomfield, NB. Elsie is survived by her daughters: Doreen (Stephen) Folkins, Sussex, NB; Donna Chase, Kingston, NB; Barbara (Melvin "Buzz") Buchanan, Hammondville, NB; sons: Calvin (Dale) Mercer, Knightville, NB; Raymond (Shelley) Mercer, Sussex Corner, NB and daughter-in-law Norma Mercer, Kingston, NB. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one sister Lillian Kilpatrick as well as several nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Warren; infant son Larry; son James; son-in-law Merlin "Mike" Chase; as well as her siblings Carcella Floyd, Irene Marks, Vernon Tays and Mary Hardy. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8pm. The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 11:00am from Reid’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in Big Rock Cemetery, Bloomfield, Kings County, NB. The family would like to express a special thank you towards the staff at the Kiwanis Nursing Home. Your kindness and compassion given towards Elsie and her family will not be forgotten.
