Obituary of Carolyn Frances Forsythe
It is with heavy hearts the family of Carolyn Frances Forsythe of Passekeag, announce her passing June 18, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Grand Falls NB 64 years ago, she is the daughter of Theresa (Moran) McManus and the Late Donald J. McManus.
She leaves behind her mother, her husband Blair Forsythe, her sons; Don Johnson of Saint John, Matthew Johnson (Gilda) of Whitby ON, Christopher Johnson (Shanice) of Moncton, her brothers; Michael McManus of Moncton, David McManus (Brenda) of Fredericton, and Kevin McManus of Oshawa ON, her grandchildren; Mia and Emmett. Carolyn was predeceased by her father Donald McManus, a brother Steven McManus and a son Andrew Johnson.
Hailing from Grand Falls, Carolyn arrived at UNB in the fall of 1971. She received her B. Phys Ed. in 1975 and started her career at Hampton Elementary School that September, teaching both French and Phys Ed. Always wanting her own class, she soon moved onto the classroom and over the years has taught grades 4, 5 and 6.
Her love of sports and belief in physical fitness has never faded. Having received the award for female athlete of the year at her high school graduation, she continued on in life to play volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, fastball and also enjoyed swimming and canoeing.
Carolyn always felt strongly that the whole world is the classroom and involved her students in nature walks and science expeditions to learn to love the great outdoors. Many class trips were shared with other teachers to such places as Kings Landing, the Huntsman Museum in St. Andrew’s, the Woodsman’s Museum in Boiestown, Irving Nature park and Magic Mountain to name a few. Another of her passions was books and reading aloud to the kids to instil in them a love of literature.
Carolyn was very proud of her sons, now grown. Blair and Carolyn enjoyed their time together sharing their love of dancing, listening to music, going to movies, taking long drives and spending time with family and friends. There was a special place in her heart for Mia and Emmett, and her special friends Bonnie Ganong, Maria Machum and Linda Beebe. Carolyn enjoyed her time working at the Hampton Pharmasave following her retirement from teaching.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Thursday, June 21st, 2018 from 6-8 pm. A Celebration of Carolyn’s Life will be held 11:00 am Friday, June 22th 2018 at Reid’s Funeral Home Chapel.
