Obituary of Collie MacCullam

"How fortunate we’ve been to have had someone that makes saying ‘Good Bye’ so Hard!" (Winnie the Pooh) Our beloved Collie (Glen) Collingwood MacCullam, husband of Sharon (Currie) MacCullam of Hampton, NB, passed away on April 1, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Newcastle, NB, on October 19, 1944, he was the son of the late Jean (Parks) MacCullam. Collie married his high school sweetheart, Sharon, over 49 years ago and theirs was a marriage of true love and respect for each other as they shared the ups and downs of life. Collie was most proud of his children, Scott and Lesley. Because he worked shift work all his life, he was often home in the daytime. He’d lay on the couch with them snuggling with him as they watched The Friendly Giant, Mr. Dress-up or Sesame Street. Later on when they married and gave him 6 beautiful grandchildren, he loved each of them with the same passion and cared about how each one was doing in school, soccer, skating, dance, hockey etc. Every day he’d say to Sharon, "Have you heard from Lesley/Scott yet?" Collie was always involved in Sports. He grew up playing baseball and continued this as an adult playing on many adult teams including the Hall Road Couger’s. He enjoyed playing and coaching Scott in Hockey, and always tried to make sure every player on the bench got proper ‘ice time’. He was a die-hard fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs! That should not be held against him! Collie enjoyed golf in his later years and could usually be found somewhere on the course of the Hampton Golf and Country Club with his buddies, cracking jokes and throwing golf clubs when he made a bad swing. Collie was never worried about what other people thought of him…that’s probably why he was often seen downtown Hampton in his slippers. Collie enjoyed his time hanging out at Snow’s Hardware on Friday nights "getting nails". He was always up for a great practical joke (the illegal salmon was a good one)! The past several years Collie enjoyed his trips to "Tim’s" with his friends where lots of stories (true and false) were exchanged. But most of all, he loved his family! Collie will be sadly missed by his son Scott (Kathleen) and daughter Lesley (Peter) Yorke, all of Calgary, AB; 6 grandchildren: Matthew, Michael and Anna Yorke, Grace, Daniel and Charlotte MacCullam. He is also survived by his sister Gloria McKay; aunt Edith Parks, as well as nephews, nieces and cousins. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM. A celebration of Collie’s life will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 2:00PM from St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Hampton, NB. A private family interment will take place in the spring at Moorefield Cemetery on the Miramichi. Donations in memory of Collie may be made to the Salvation Army, Moorefield Cemetery, Children’s Wish Foundation or to the memorial of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and donations may be made through ReidsFH.com
