Obituary of Ronald William Robertson

Surrounded by his family, Ron Robertson went home to be with the Lord, on March 10, 2018 at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home where Ron and his loving wife Rose (Justason) have lived until Ron’s passing. Born in Saint John on May 3rd. 1940, he was the son of the late James L. and Ethel R (Quigg) Robertson. Ron and Rose were married in 1962 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Survived by his wife and children, William R. (Billy) Robertson and Donna Rose (Russell) Mallett, his sister Mary McLauglin (Jim), five grandchildren Joe (Sarah), Cheryl Mallett (Ralph McKinney) and Michael (Desiree) Mallett; Nick Robertson and Miranda (Nick) Ling, his cousins Sandy (Diane) Robertson, Gail (Tom) Ewart, numerous nieces and nephews and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents Ron was predeceased by his sister Jean Anne (Griffin) and brother Jim (Ootsie). Ron grew up in East Saint John and followed his father’s passion for horse racing from an early age. He owned and raced several horses at Exhibition Park in his earlier days and was well known in the harness racing fraternity. One of his joys of harness racing was his colt Hillview Islander who did him proud. Ron was a lifetime member (58 years) of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters local 213. He started his pipe fitting career at the Saint John Drydock and worked on numerous large industrial projects over his long career. While Ron lived in East Saint John most of his life and had many friends in the city, the family moved to Bloomfield in later years where he could keep his horse. A wonderful family man, Ron and Rose’s home was full of the kids and their dogs while they prepared fabulous feasts for the crowd. Ron will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him. There will be a time of fellowship for friends and family to share memories of Ron on Wednesday 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the St. Andrew's Lounge of the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing home 130 University Ave, Saint John. The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home for their wonderful care. Dad will miss his physian Dr. Jim Collings and staff members Kelly and Paulette. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. At Ron's request there will be no visitation or service. Donations may be made to the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home Inc. or the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
