Obituary of Joan Elizabeth Tays

On March 9th, Joan Elizabeth Tays (Roberts), loving wife of W Stewart Tays of 54 years, passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Joan was born in Hampton 74 years ago the daughter of the late Edward and Winnifred (Marks) Roberts. In her youth Joan worked as a hair dresser, as the children were born it was more important for her to stay home and focus on them. When they were teenagers when she reentered the workforce as primary cook at the Hampton Diner, then did her certification for food service management. She worked at the Dr. VA Snow Center as head cook and as then food service manager until her retirement. In her youth she loved Stewart, their children, their families (Sisters, Brothers), sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking and family traditions. Where ever she was children flocked to her. In her middle years she loved Stewart, their grandchildren, their children, their families and her hobbies expanded to include; darts, bingo, bowling and the ladies auxiliary. And in her later years she loved Stewart, their great grandchildren, their grandchildren, their children, their families. Her hobbies further expanded to traveling in the motorhome, music festivals, cross stitch and playing games (Yatzi, Dammit, Solitaire). She had a real soft spot for their grandchildren and great grandchildren, she always took the time to play games with them and make sure they knew how much they were loved. She also had many great friends that she had spent time with over the years that held a special place in her heart. Surviving in addition to her husband Stewart are her children; Kim Tays (Bruce Cameron) of Nauwigawauk, Mike Tays of Alberta, Sherry Whittaker of Saint John and Jason Tays of Passekeag. Joan is also survived by sisters; Susan Betteridge (Dave) and Heather Monahan (Jim) and a brother Terry Roberts, 8 grandchildren; Kristy-Ann and Jonathon Tays, Adam, Corey, Ryan Eatmon, Jessica and Nicholas Whittaker (Kailey Soucy) and Jennifer Johnston and 3 great-grandchildren; William and Emily Long and Carson Soucy. Joan was predeceased by sisters; Marsha Riley and Edwina Roberts and brothers: Wayne, Malcolm and Bud. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB. A "Celebration of Joan’s Life " will be held from 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm on Wednesday March 14th, 2018 at the Lighthouse River Centre, 1075 Main St. Hampton. Burial will be in the springtime at Big Rock Cemetery, Bloomfield. Donations in memory of Joan may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the S.P.C.A.
